"Illumination" Skull Base Stained Glass

"Illumination" Skull Base Stained Glass

"Illumination" is a skull base painting inspired by stained glass windows from medieval churches.

These windows illuminate the anatomy of the skull base and in a broad sense, the windows highlight the journey of those who perform medical procedures in this area. It is also meant to offer hope for patients suffering from an ailment of the skull base. The windows are representative of the dedication and commitment given to this highly inspiring practice and lifestyle of surgical medicine.

The imagery in the center panel is a view of the inferior skull base. Teeth are at the top with  foramen magnum and occipital bone at the bottom.

The left panel shows the posterior sphenoid, eyes (looking up), view from an endonasal approach of the pituitary, carotids, basilar artery, etc. At the bottom is a side view of the middle intracranial fossa with the trigeminal nerve and CN's 7-11, middle meningeal artery and the pons.

The right panel has the anterior sphenoid under the endoscope light, orbit anatomy, ethmoids, and at the bottom is the infratemporal fossa/ jugular foramen (and contents), carotid, and CN V mandibular branch.

The side panel corners are decorated with temporal lobe in cross section. The background is filled with red and white blood cells and the two sides are lit up with the endoscope at the top.
